Frequently Asked Questions

No, Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate is packed full of anti-oxidants which have many health benefits.  Heat destroys these antioxidants so it is imperative to keep the juice cold at all times.  This is also why we recommend keeping Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice in the freezer where possible as this prolongs the shelf life of the juice.

Tru2U Flax Seed Oil contains alpha linolenic acid (ALA) which is a type of Omega-3 not found in fish oil. The body needs all of the Omega 3's - ALA, EPA and DHA - to function. In healthy people the body can use ALA to make the other Omega-3 fatty acids, but it cannot make ALA from anything else.

Cooking with Tru2U Flax Seed Oil will destroy many of the nutritional benefits of the flax seed and create oxidised omega-3, which is actively bad for you. It is fine to drizzle flax seed over hot food or toss through hot dishes, but we strongly recommend you do not use it for cooking.

Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate is 100% pure and there are no side effects that we are aware of.  We are also not aware of any drug contra-indications or adverse events reporting which might indicate that it is unsafe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding.

There is nothing added to the juice and nothing taken away (other than water to concentrate it) and the only thing which makes it substantially different from any other juice is the natural melatonin content.  Because melatonin is a hormone we all naturally produce in our body every night, we see no reason for pregnant or breastfeeding woman to have any concern in enjoying our Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice.

As with anything that you are unsure about when pregnant or breastfeeding, please consult with your healthcare advisor if you have any concerns.

If you are already on sleeping pills we recommend you continue taking the Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice and the sleeping pills together for 7-10 days, then slowly wean yourself off the sleeping pills.

Because Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice is a natural product it doesn't always have an immediate effect and most people see results within 7-10 days, although it is not unusual to take 2-3 weeks to see an improvement. However, for people that have suffered disturbed sleep for a long period of time it may take as long as 2-3 months for Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice to have an effect.

Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice is Low GI with a rating of 54, making it suitable for many diabetics. It contains no additives, preservatives or added sugar. A serving of cherry juice can be taken in two or three small servings spaced out over an hour before bedtime which will reduce the impact of the natural fruit sugars in the juice. Some studies have shown that Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice can aid in controlling diabetes and reducing the symptoms associated with this disease.

Yes - the anthocyanin antioxidants have an anti-inflammatory effect. In most cases you are better to have your juice in the evening so that you get the added benefits of better sleep, however for more severe cases of gout you may get better results by drinking the cherry juice in the morning on an empty stomach. Taking the juice in the morning means you won't get the sleep benefits but you will still get all the immune system and anti-oxidant benefits from Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice.

Yes, Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice needs to be kept in the fridge, even when unopened. We recommend that your bottle is used within 6-8 weeks of opening - if you are going to take longer than this to use the bottle (e.g. when a child is the only user) we recommend that you make up about one weeks supply in a jug and keep the balance of the bottle of concentrate in the freezer. The juice never freezes solid and will not burst the bottle. Keeping your Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice in the freezer preserves the anti-oxidant and other beneficial properties of the juice.

You are more likely to get good results if you take it consistently - both everyday and at the same time everyday. To help promote a restful and restorative sleep Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice should be taken about 30 - 60mins before bedtime.

In some people, the acidity of the juice can upset the stomach. The cherry juice concentrate can be mixed with natural yoghurt which helps to counteract the acidity of the juice. If you think your stomach is being upset by the juice we suggest you begin by taking a 1/4 serve of the juice with yoghurt in the morning, increasing it to 1/2 serve after a few days and then increasing it to a full serving when you are sure it is not upsetting your stomach by taking it with yoghurt. When you have established how much juice you can have this way without it upsetting your stomach then try taking it at night in the same way and the same quantities you were taking in the morning. You will not get the sleep benefits of the cherry juice if it is taken in the morning but you will still receive all the immune system and antioxidant benefits.

Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice is a rich source of antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins which can act as an anti-inflammatory with conditions such as gout and arthritis. It also provides significant support to the immune system for overall wellbeing, protects against free-radical damage (i.e. ageing) and promotes general skin health. If taken during the day, for pleasure, arthritis/gout or other antioxidant benefits, it will not usually make you sleepy (unless you are a shift worker or in a very dark and quiet environment).

Tru2U Tart Cherry juice is safe for babies and children who are already comfortably on solids. For children the amount of concentrate needs to be reduced according to weight, allowing 70-80kgs for an average adult.

As an example we would suggest 1/2 tablespoon (one quarter of the average serving) for a 20kg child and 1tsp (1/2 of the average serving) for a 40kg child.

Like most juice concentrates, Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice is concentrated to 68 brix, which refers to the sugar levels and ensures that it is stable. This is the most accurate measure of concentration, other measures such as weight or number of cherries are not as accurate as the percentage of water in the cherries at the time of production can vary significantly, which makes a huge difference to the nutritional content.

We import the cherry concentrate from Canada and bottle it in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice does not have a direct effect on blood pressure. However, the anti-oxidants in cherry juice can thin the blood slightly which may act to reduce blood pressure.

There is 0.1mg of melatonin in a 30ml serving of Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice.

Some people are particularly sensitive to the cherry concentrate and it can cause dark and restless dreaming. If you are experiencing dark or restless dreaming while taking the juice then try lowering the serving size by 20%.

The recommended serving size is 30mls of concentrate, or 2 tablespoons.

Most people like it diluted 1 part juice to 7 parts water, making a total of 240mls of diluted juice per serving. if you wish to enjoy the concentrate without dilution it is very enjoyable when added to plain yoghurt, or poured neat over ice-cream (it is delicious over chocolate ice-cream!).

Although Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice is mildly acidic, it is similar to lemon juice in that it appears to have an alkalising effect on the body when consumed.

Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice does contain some Sorbitol which can aggravate symptoms for sufferers of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  Cherries contain less Sorbitol than pears so those that can tolerate pears or pear juice should have no problem with Tru2U Tart Cherry Juice.
